Disney’s legendary princess story comes back to theaters in live-action March 13th, 2015. The once abused step-sister-turned princess by magical mice and fairy godmother. The pumpkin carriage pulled by mice turned horses accompany the magic of the ever powerful glass slipper, who can only fit Prince Charming’s one true love. The famous glass slipper has become one of the most famous shoes in pop culture. For the upcoming film, Disney collaborated with Swarovski to produce the shoes with oversight from designers like Stuart Weitzman, Jimmy Choo, Salvatore Ferragamo and others. There’s no arguing it is the most beautiful and elegant shoe ever created, but how would the cost of the custom molded crystal stiletto match up against some other of the world’s most extravagant shoes?

Aforementioned designer Stuart Weitzman is known for creating some of the most expensive shoes in the world. He claims 8 of the top 10 most expensive shoes ever made, the least expensive of which costs a mere $500,000. He collaborates with world renowned jewelers and uses the finest gemstones and materials. His shoes only touch red carpet as they are commonly adorning the feet of Hollywood’s finest at major events and ceremonies. At $3 million, his “Rita Hayworth” brown and red satin slippers are his most expensive shoes to date, but fall short of claiming “World’s Most Expensive” title.

Tom Ford’s Stunners were worn by celebrity Nick Cannon as host of America’s Got Talent. These $2 million kicks are made of white gold accenting 14,000 diamonds.

How do the legendary glass slippers compare to the other famous shoe from the silver screen? The original Ruby Red Slippers from The Wizard of Oz were only made of red sequins and glitter but the 4 pairs are estimated at about $2 million. One pair is on display for free in the Smithsonian Museum, one pair was a part of Judy Garland’s estate but was reportedly stolen (there’s no place like home). In 1989, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of The Wizard of Oz, Ronald Winston (son of famous jeweler Harry Winston) re-created the shoes. Meticulously encrusted with 4,600 quality rubies (1,350 carats) and 50 carats of diamonds. With a value of $3 million, please refrain from clicking your heels together in these, these are the world’s most expensive pair of shoes.

There is no doubt that Dorothy’s ruby red and Cinderella’s glass slippers are the most iconic shoes of all time. The extravagance of these shoes demonstrates the importance of not only cring for the feet, but adorning them.
